Communication Is Key

I am happy to have a phone conversation and facetime chat with you if you are interested applying for one of our puppies.  I am happy to share photos &/or videos to show you where the puppies are and how they are raised once they are born. After your pup goes home we still want to hear from you with pictures and updates.

Health Testing

A pup gets an early start on the road to health before conception through parental health testing that involves three key aspects.

  • Overall health as assed by our reproductive veterinary specialist.

  • OFA certifications for Patellar Luxation (knees) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (eyes) as recommended by the YTCA.            OFA results can be viewed on the OFA website.

  • Embark genetic panel screening to prevent passing known conditions on to our pups. I am happy to share results with you.

Veterinary Care

Puppies have docked tails and dew claws removed. Puppies are Microchipped and sent home with lifetime registration through AKC Reunite. They have a start on their vaccinations and will be preventatively wormed as needed.  The have a full veterinary check-up and receive their first heartworm preventative before going home at 12 weeks. Each pup has a written assessment from the veterinarian that is in your go home packet. I provide health care for all my dogs through a local reproductive specialist. I highly recommend Josey Ranch Pet Hospital for all my local families.

Nutrition

The health of our puppies begins with the health of our adults. I feed a species appropriate raw diet which I feel provides superior nutrition for optimal health to all my dogs.  Puppies are weaned directly onto a balanced raw diet and go home on Primal Brand Raw and Answers Raw Goat's Milk. I recommend raw for the life of your pet.

Socialization

We start ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) from Day 5-18. We use a mix of Puppy Culture and The Rules Of 7 socialization protocols to produce happy, confident puppies that are go home ready.  They will be in the early stages of pad training. They will also be exposed to basic commands such as sit and be exposed to walking on a leash.  They will be car and crate ready and be independent sleepers. You will be allowed to name your puppy and they know and respond to their name when going home if puppies names are selected with enough time to train.

Size

There is no such thing as a "Teacup". It is a marketing term that has been very successful but also misleading. It has also unfortunately resulted in unhealthy animals being bred with the sole purpose of producing super small pups.

While size cannot be guaranteed, I expect our pups to be in the 5–7 pound range which is consistent with this genetic line.

We will never put the health of our dams or pups in jeopardy for the sole purpose of producing small pups.

Color

Color is a hot button topic for Yorkies!
Please don't be fooled by "rare" or "exotic" colors.

Puppy Coat Color

A puppy is born black and tan. The body should be all black with tan points primarily on the face, legs and feet. As it ages it will change into it's beautiful adult coloring. Puppy coats should be smooth and shiny at birth.

Adult Coat Color

The adult Yorkshire Terrier has a distinctive metallic blue and tan long silk textured coat. It is cool to the touch and drapes smoothly along the contours of the dogs body. Is flows with the dog in movement and gives an appearance of liquid silk.

The only colors recognized by the YTCA are:

  • blue and gold

  • blue and tan

  • black and gold

  • black and tan

The breed standard and the YTCA Code Of Ethics for breeders does not recognize any other color. A responsible breeder will not intentionally breed for undesirable traits.

The recent popularity of "rare" or "exotic" breeds has fueled a huge demand and money motivated breeders are fanning the flames with slick marketing and catchy names like Double Chocolate, Midnight Black, Blueberry, Sable, ChocoBerry, Merles and the list goes on.

These colors are not naturally occurring and most often are the result of a mixed breed heritage. These dogs are often sold at a premium and sometimes cost more then a well breed Yorkie in both initial cost and long term care.

On rare occasions, a breeder will have a puppy born with a color anomaly. This puppy should never be bred. It should under go careful health screening and then be placed in a companion home.

A breeder should certainly never promote color deviations as being desirable, exotic or rare. This includes all gold, blue born, liver (which includes red and chocolate) and parti-colors.

Breeders should avoid "off-colored" Yorkies. It can and does result in genetic defects that may affect the long term health of the dog. These Yorkies have a higher risk of health problems including severe skin problems including allergies, total hair loss, deafness, blindness, long-term illness and even early death.

Puppy Selection

Puppy evaluation and selection begins at 8 weeks. As I am breeding for my next show prospect, I always get first pick.

Using the information provided to me via the application process and ongoing conversations coupled with my observations of the pups as they grow, I select the puppy that I feel will best fit your needs.

Time To Go Home

I keep my puppies to a minimum of 12 weeks of age with no exceptions for younger puppies. This age is recommended by the YTCA for Yorkshire Terriers based on their physical and social development.

Go Home Goodies

When the big day comes for your puppy to go home we will have gone over all the needed supplies and what you should expect. We want to make the transition as easy as possible and send home a tote bag packed full of helpful items and information. We include grooming supplies, bowls, water bottles, blankets, toys and more. We love sending home goodies with our pups and you never know what you may find in your bag. In addition to your go home bag, we highly recommend continuing your puppies Puppy Culture Experience by using the With Open Arms And A Level Head course.

Wait List

We only have 1-2 litters per year so our pups are in demand. We do have a wait list to accommodate those wanting to insure they can acquire a KanDew puppy. At KanDew Yorkies we do not require a deposit to be put on the waiting list. If you are interested in being placed on a waiting list for future puppies, please fill out our puppy buyer application and return it for consideration.

Cost

Our companion pups sell for $4000.00. Male and female pups have the same price and all have a spay/neuter contract.

This is an all inclusive price and pays for everything including all veterinary care, vaccinations, a reunite microchip with lifetime registration and AKC prepaid limited registration. All food, care supplies, and your go home bag are included in this price. We do not have any hidden add on fees that unexpectedly increase the price of your puppy.

Holding Fee

We do require a nonrefundable 50% ($2000) holding fee to reserve a puppy exclusively for you. We do not accept this fee until the puppies are born and thriving. Once a holding fee is received, I will send regular updated photos and videos as the puppies grow.

Payment

We do not accept payment for your holding fee until your application has been approved and you have completed the contract for your puppy. We accept Zelle, Venmo, Cashiers Checks and Cash for holding fee payments. Final arrangements will only be made after the your contract has been completed and approved.

The final remaining balance ($2000) may be paid in cash at the time of pick-up. You may elect to pay via electronic payment using Venmo or Zelle but these payments must be received in time to clear before your pup can go home, usually 3-5 business days.

Scammer Alert

Social Media has made it very easy for scammers to prey on puppy buyers who are looking for their new companion and are often emotionally vulnerable.

I understand that many people have fallen victim to these puppy scammers and are therefore very cautious in proceeding with contracts and deposits.

As a result, I do offer the option of paying in full at pick up, but in choosing to do so you are not guaranteed a pup will be available at 12 weeks.

Historically all our litters have sold out before pick-up.

Pick-Up and Delivery Options

We have several options for go home day.

  • Pick-Up directly from us

  • Pick up from our local airport

  • Pick up from your local airport. We never use a transport company and are happy to fly your puppy to you. You are responsible for transportation cost including airfare, hotel if needed, pet travel fees and additional health clearances not normally provided. We do not charge for our time or personal expenses.

A Home For Life

We know that even if we place our puppies with the utmost care, the unexpected can happen. In the event that you are no longer able to care for a KanDew Yorkie for any reason, they always have a home with us. No KanDew Yorkie should ever be placed in a shelter or rescue.
